Michael "Patches" Stewart

Until now, "Patches" has been one of the best kept secrets in the music world. He fell in love with the trumpet. His dedication toward mastering the instrument led him to seek additional opportunities to hone his skills. At the age of 16 he found himself in a recording studio for the first time as part of the horn section on what was to become the LaBelle hit "Lady Marmalade".

Patches turned down several scholarships from prestigious institutions, including the Berklee College of Music, and he headed for Los Angeles. After a few lean years working with local bands, his luck changed and he found himself playing and touring with the Brothers Johnson. That association led to an invitation to work with Quincy Jones on "The Dude" tour.

In 1983 Patches began touring with another jazz giant, Al Jarreau. Al's frequent world tours introduced Patches to international audiences throughout Europe, North and South America, Australia and Japan.

Since 1992, Patches has joined Marcus Miller in the studio and on tours. By working with Miller, whose performances also showcase the talents of his "best of the best" musicians, Patches has won new fans in the USA, Europe and Japan. In the meanwhile, Patches keeps busy by touring with other acts, including backing Whitney Houston.

Now, he is busy planning the promotion of his first solo CD "Blue Patches" as well as working on the concepts for his follow-up CD. Patches also plans to continue working with Marcus Miller's band and will lend his talents on other projects as time allows.
